1. What is the difference between Foil Stamping and Blind Debossing?

Foil Stamping (also known as "hot foil stamping")

Foil Stamping is the application of metallic foil on to a solid surface by application of a heated die onto the foil, making it adhere to the surface below the design of the die.  The foil stamp is a permanent process.  This red Bible shows several ways that Foil Stamping is applied to personalize a Bible.  To see more examples how these options look, click one of the following:

Option A: Foil Stamp name or text on Cover;

Option B: Foil name or text on Flysheet;

Option C: Foil Stamp a specialty foil image on the Cover;

Option D: Foil Stamp a specialty foil image on the Spine;

Option E: Foil Stamp Rule lines on Spine.

Blind Debossing

For Bible personalization, most of our customers elect to foil stamp rather than blind deboss.

However, blind debossing is available in virtually every instance on this page where foil stamping is being made.  That is because, at Bella Becho, blind debossing uses a similar process to foil stamping but does not involve the use of foils.  Therefore, the hot die is pressed into the surface below the die, leaving a recess in the design of the die.  The blind debossing process provides a clean and distinctive or subtle image.

We can blind emboss text, names, images, logos.

A. Bible personalization: A name on the front cover or spine

For spines, customers usually combine text foil stamping with an "in house" image and sometimes with rule lines.  Click for more examples of "in-house" images for spines.

Available Fonts to personalize your Bible

Font sizes may be limited for text on the spines as it is dependent on available space on the spine.  If you want a date with the text, please be sure to confirm that the font you selected has available numerals.  Some do not, and you may need to select another font.  If you have any questions, please consult with our staff.

E. Spine Bands, Foil Stamped Spine Rule Lines and Deboss Rule Lines

Bible personalization gets taken to a new level when you add raised bands on a new spine.  These add character and dimension.  The cover material selection can affect the look of the spine bands caused mostly because of the thickness of the materials.

Cowhide plonge and goatskin are thicker materials than bonded leather.  Accordingly, spine bands in natural grains have a different look and feel than the spine bands in bonded leather.

A beautiful combination is to combine a natural leather or goatskin and either foil stamp or deboss ruled line(s) above and/or below the spine band so the spine band "pops".

Deboss rule lines are basically foiled rule lines without the foil.  The impressions made above and below the spine bands look great.  Debossing impresses a die into the surface of a material, leaving a depressed (debossed) imprint of the image.  Click on the photos for a larger image.

Decisions relating to Spine Bands:

  1. Do you want Spine Bands?
  2. If so, thin or thick?
  3. Do you want deboss rule lines above and below the spine bands to accentuate the spine bands?

Decisions relating to Rule lines:

  1. Do you want Rule Lines on the spine?
  2. If so, what color? (gold, silver, copper or gunmetal). We recommend the same color as any other foil stamping.

Rule lines without spine bands

We foil stamp rule lines on books and Bibles.

F. Debossing Images-Bible personalization without the foil as an option for Bible personalization

The cross on the front cover of this Bible is debossed.  Debossing impresses a die into the surface of a material, leaving a depressed (debossed) imprint of the image.  We can deboss many of the cover and spine foil stamping images above.  Its basically foil stamping without the foil!
